The company is now following the newly created guidelines for hosts on sanitizing and cleaning rooms. These guidelines were developed in consultation with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and medical experts. The main guideline - hosts must wear personal protective equipment (PPE), covering from head to toe at the time of cleaning rooms and shared places right after a guest's stay. According to the latest parameters of Airbnb cleaning in Melbourne, the PPE must include safety glasses, disposable gloves, a mask or cloth facial covering, an apron or gown, and shoe coverings, which are optional but recommended. 

The cleaning parameters also outlines that hosts must clean the bathroom and kitchen first, which are the dirtiest spaces. They are also advised to rewash the clean plates and dishes and clean shower curtains through the highest manufacturer-recommended setting after each stay. 

The hosts who follow the guidelines properly will be able to display the certification of “Enhanced Cleaning Protocol” on their listings after signing their commitment attestation and taking a quiz to follow the latest protocols. 

Right now, the US hosts are only eligible to get certified in Enhanced Cleaning Protocol, and the hosts are responsible for buying their cleaning and PPE supplies. According to the press desk of Airbnb, the global rollout of the certification is going to “follow shortly”. The hosts who cannot able to commit to the protocol can opt into an alternative Booking Buffer program that will last for 72 hours, signaling the visitors that all of the rooms have been vacant before their arrival for 72 hours. 

As it has been seen that Airbnb has reported an interest surge in local stays, the number of bookings two years ago is exceeding the number of bookings today for the same period of the year. This is because the pandemic has affected the business a lot, like most other businesses across the globe.
